1984 – 2016 – over 30 years of Running & Friendship
To celebrate, we have commisioned a short-film about the Club, which is hosted on YouTube
The Early Days
Sinfin Running Club was started in 1984 with the help of the Sinfin Community Council and met every Wednesday at Sinfin Moor Social Club. The club grew in membership and stature and soon started to pick up individual and team prizes in many races, both at senior and junior level. One of the clubs biggest achievements was when they won the national final of the ‘Today’s Runner’ cross country league. The club had some very good runners, Pete Yeomans and Tim Bishop being just two of them. These two runners won many races including the Worksop Half Marathon and Bury 20.
More recently, the club has found an excellent new base at Rolls Royce Sports Pavillion which enables members to have a much welcome shower and pint at the end of the training run (not to mention the legendary chip-cobs!)
The club has a very strong social focus and regularly holds social events and nights out. Club members also compete in the UK and abroad. Recently this has included club trips to the Amsterdam Marathon / Half-Marathon, the London Marathon, the National Cross-Country Championships and a range of other road and cross country races. The club also hosts the very popular Sinfin Classic 10k annual race.
We have some very good runners and have experienced significant recent success such as winning the 2008 Ladies’ Vets Derbyshire County Athletics Association Pride Park Relays. Individual successes have included wins by Chris Morrison in the over 50s category at the Keyworth Turkey Trot in December 2008. In June 2008, it was a clean sweep for the club as Matt Radbourne and Helen Ripley won the Mens and Vet Ladies categories in the Rolls Royce 10 mile race.
The club welcomes runners of all standards and has a steadily growing membership as new runners experience the friendliness of the club and invite others to join.
Below is a link to the current membership form for the Club.
Currently membership to our club will cost you £29 for an individual or £41 for a family membership or £12 for a second claim or social membership.
There are no extra fees to pay on our Wednesday meeting nights.
Part of this payment includes your membership to UK Athletics (obviously not paid for second claim or social membership) – most races that you enter you will give you a reduced entry fee for being a UK Athletics member.
There are showers available after the Wednesday run.
We do also provide chip-cobs on a Wednesday night and any donations towards the cost of these is gratefully received 🙂
Of course if you want to buy kit (Running vests/hoodies or Training t-shirts) they are also available. Currently Vests are £13.50, Hoodies are £13.50 and Training T-shirts are £5.
