Derwent River Relays 2011

We entered 3 mens teams in the Belper River Relays. Carl did especially well, finishing his first leg in 4th postion.

Results are eagerly awaited, but we think our first team came 5th.

Fell Racing in 2011

Graham has prepared the 2011 Fell Race Fixture: a list of 55 fell/hill races you may be interested in running during 2011.

Here is a Summary of the 2010 Fell-race season, and the 2010 fell race final results are also available.

Staffordshire Moorlands Christmas Cracker - 19th Dec 2010

Staffordshire Moorlands Xmas Cracker

Five intrepid fell runners headed for Tittesworth Reservoir in Leek for the last fell race of 2010 on 19th December.  With temperatures in minus figures it was not surprising that there were several brass monkeys competing along with the elves, santa’s, hells angels and herd of sheep complete with sheep dog!  Graham was particularly heroic in donning a hula girl outfit and the other team members were surprised (and a little concerned!) to note how comfortable he seemed to be wearing women’s clothing……….!
The normal eight mile route up the Roaches had to be abandoned due to sheet ice at the top and instead the runners were sent on a five mile route around the reservoir.  The landscape looked fantastic, with the reservoir frozen solid and the surrounding hills white with frost and snow.  It was a fitting Christmassy end to what has been one of the best fell seasons for the club.
The Sinfin group ran as a team although Tim got lost at the start – he was last seen chatting up a scantily clad Mrs Santa Claus and we didn’t see him after that... but he romped heroically home only a few seconds after the group with a big smile on his face.  There was only one incident when Jayne took an icy corner too enthusiastically and ended up on her (thankfully well padded) derriere but she was helped up by Santa Claus and manfully carried on unharmed - so much for “‘elf and safety” (boom! boom!).
Although the team were not first home across the line we did win the prize for being first into the pub – a fitting end to the race calendar for 2010.

Dovedale Dash - 7th Nov 2010

Dovedale Dash 2010 - Doctors & Nurses

2010 was the 55th “Dash” and there was a very good turn out from the club. It has become a club tradition over the past few years to do the race in fancy dress, and this year’s theme was Doctors and Nurses (Thanks Helen!), and some were enjoying dressing up as a nurse more than perhaps they should!

The weather on the day was ideal for the race: cold and bright. The ground was soft and muddy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! The race is relatively short (~4.5miles), but is quite gruelling.

Full Race Report & photos here (Thanks to David Kaplan).
